VietNamNet Bridge - Workers of a Long An province-based company have found four cannons under the Thi Nai lagoon in the central province of Binh Dinh.
The first three cannons were fished out on October 1 and the fourth was on October 5.
Two cannons are 2.7 meters each and the two others are 2.37 meters each, believed to be used for warships. They were cast by bronze and pig-iron. They are weighed several hundreds of kilos so workers had to use cranes to fish them out of the water.
The cannons may have been sunk during a fight at the lagoon between the Nguyen Anh army and Tay Son troops in 1801, according to Dinh Ba Hoa, director of Binh Dinh Museum. Previously, area fishermen found six submerged cannons in the lagoon.
Hoa said there is Chinese script on the cannons, but the content is not verified yet. These will be handed over to the Binh Dinh Museum very soon. Hoa also said that workers who found the cannons would be rewarded.
